Privacy policy
Last updated October 11, 2026 (friends and sharing added)
The short version
- Your workouts, food log and health numbers are yours. Other Kinetta users see an activity only if you choose to share it, and your food log and health numbers are never shared.
- No ads, no tracking, no selling or sharing your data.
- AI features send data to an AI service only if you turn them on.
- You can download everything, or delete your account and all of it, from the app at any time.
Who this covers
This policy covers the Kinetta beta at login.kinetta.app and this website, kinetta.app. Both are run by Ben Banks, an individual in North Carolina, USA ("we" below).
Kinetta is also open-source software that anyone can run on their own computer. If you use someone else's Kinetta, the person running it holds your data, and this policy doesn't apply to them.
What we collect
| What | Examples | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Beta request | Name, email, phone type, watch, your note | To decide on and send your invite |
| Account | Name, username, password (stored only in scrambled form), time zone, units | To let you log in and show things your way |
| Profile | Sex, birth year, height, weight, heart-rate settings, calorie and macro targets | Heart-rate zones, effort, calorie needs |
| Activities | GPS routes, distance, pace, heart rate, power, cadence, the original files from your watch or uploads | To show, analyze and compare your workouts |
| Food and health | Food log, saved meals, weigh-ins, goals, training plans, gear | Your food log, trends and plans |
| Friends and sharing | Your friends, who each activity is shared with, which details you share, cheers and comments | To show the activities you choose to share to the people you choose |
| Connections | Settings for services you link, such as intervals.icu or Health Auto Export | To bring in new activities automatically |
| Technical | Login sessions with the type of browser or phone; IP address and pages requested | Keeping you logged in, blocking password guessing, fixing problems |
Your location is collected only as part of the activities you record or upload. Kinetta doesn't track where you are otherwise. Food photos you use for estimates are sent to the AI service and are not stored.
Apple Health
If you use the Kinetta iPhone app and allow it, Kinetta reads your workouts from Apple Health, with their heart rate, routes, distance and active calories. It never writes anything to Apple Health. These workouts are sent to your Kinetta account and treated like your other activities: private to you, never used for advertising, and never sold or shared.
The AI coach uses workouts from Apple Health only if you separately agree to that in the app (Me → Apple Health). You can change what Kinetta may read at any time in the iPhone's Settings → Health → Data Access & Devices.
Who else sees it
- Other Kinetta users: only what you choose to share. Every activity starts as Only me. You can share one with friends you have approved, or with everyone who has an account on this Kinetta, which during the beta includes people you don't know. You choose which details they see; heart rate and calories are off unless you turn them on. Shared maps leave out the start and end of the route (400 m by default, measured along the route), but the rest of the route, the date and the time are visible. Your food log, weight, health numbers, private notes and coach notes are never shared. Your name and username are shown to people you send a friend request to, and with the cheers and comments you post, which everyone who can see that activity can read.
- The person who runs the server (Ben Banks) can technically access its database, as with any service. We look at data only to keep the service working, fix a problem you report, or when the law requires it.
- Cloudflare carries all traffic to login.kinetta.app and encrypts it on the way.
- The AI service (currently Google's Gemini), only if you turn on AI features: the numbers of a workout and your recent training for coach notes and weekly reviews, and photos you choose for food estimates. You can turn this off under Me at any time.
- Food databases (Open Food Facts and the USDA FoodData Central): the words you search for or barcodes you scan, not who you are.
- OpenStreetMap supplies the maps, so it sees which map area your phone loads.
- Services you connect yourself, such as intervals.icu or Health Auto Export, under their own policies.
We don't sell your data, use it for advertising, or share it with anyone else, except when the law requires it.
Where it's kept, and for how long
- On a server in the United States, until you delete it.
- Encrypted backups are made every night and kept for up to 30 days, so deleted data disappears from backups within 30 days too.
- Server logs that include IP addresses are trimmed automatically and kept only briefly.
- Beta requests are kept until we invite you or you ask us to remove them. Once you have an account, your request is deleted along with it.
Your choices
- Download your data: Me → Your data → Download my data gives you a zip with everything, including your original activity files.
- Delete your account: Me → Your data → Delete my account deletes your account and all its data straight away.
- AI features: Me → AI features, on or off at any time.
- Correct things: you can edit or delete any activity, food entry or weigh-in in the app.
Security
Connections are encrypted (HTTPS). Passwords are stored only in scrambled form (Argon2). The database itself keeps each person's rows separate, repeated wrong passwords are blocked, and the server is reachable from the internet only through the Kinetta app. No system is perfectly secure; if something goes wrong that affects your data, we'll tell you.
Health information
Kinetta is a fitness and food tracker, not a medical service, and its numbers and AI notes aren't medical advice. We treat your health information as sensitive and use it only to run Kinetta for you.
Children
Kinetta isn't meant for anyone under 16, and we don't knowingly collect data from them.
Changes
If we change this policy, we'll update this page and the date at the top. For important changes, we'll tell you in the app first.
Questions
During the beta, ask the person who invited you, or use the app's account tools above. For questions about the software itself, open an issue on GitHub; please don't put personal details there.
